On hot days, intense solar radiation flows into interiors, causing a noticeable rise in room temperature. This applies not only to homes but also to workplaces. Carrying out daily professional duties requires focus and precision, and excessive solar heat or blinding sun effectively reduce efficiency. So how can you ensure comfort in an office or study on hot days? Popular solutions such as air conditioners, fans or commonly used internal blinds often do not provide enough relief, while generating additional energy costs or forcing you to work under artificial lighting. A much more effective and ergonomic solution is window awnings – external accessories that absorb the sun's rays before they reach the glass. The FAKRO range, which you can find and order with installation at VENA DACH, includes awnings for roof windows, flat-roof windows and vertical INNOVIEW Line awnings (also called screens). All these solutions share high effectiveness in limiting heat penetration. Absorbing solar radiation Research carried out by FAKRO shows that external accessories are up to eight times more effective than classic internal blinds. Placing the awning on the outside of the window means it absorbs solar radiation before it reaches the glass and releases the heat outside the building. As a result, hot air does not get inside, and the room temperature can be lowered by up to 10°C. That is a noticeable difference which helps maintain a stable microclimate, favourable for both work and rest. An external awning reflects heat before it reaches the glass, preventing the greenhouse effect in the room. Protection against harmful UV rays Window awnings not only cool, but also effectively protect interiors from the harmful effects of UV radiation. This is extremely important, because long-term radiation entering through uncovered windows can lead to colour fading, discolouration and the gradual deterioration of furniture, floors and decorative elements. Light control without giving up the views Too harsh sunlight generates reflections on monitor screens and contributes to faster eye fatigue. A window awning lets you control the amount of incoming light, ensuring it is evenly diffused. In the office there are no troublesome reflections, and the light becomes eye-friendly. "An undeniable advantage of window awnings is that they preserve the inflow of natural light and the view outside. You no longer have to work in the dark with artificial lighting on." FAKRO solutions offer different levels of transparency of special fabrics (openness factors) that you can choose to suit your needs: Vertical awnings (VMZ): openness of 10%, 4%, 1% and fully blackout 0%. Awnings for roof windows (AMZ Komfort): openness of 10% and 1%. Privacy and smart control An extended awning provides excellent privacy during the day, protecting against unwanted glances, and in electric versions (ZIP systems) it additionally acts as a solid insect screen. Awning control can be fully automated. Z-Wave models available on the market allow management via remote or wall switch. WiFi versions (Tuya), in turn, allow control from a smartphone (e.g. the FAKRO Smart app) and the creation of schedules. The awning can lower itself automatically before you even arrive at the office! A real technological hit is the Z-Wave Solar vertical awning, which automatically adjusts to sunlight – it extends by itself in intense light and retracts when the sun hides behind the clouds. Solar awnings use free solar energy to operate, without the need for electrical wiring. Personalisation and colours In the FAKRO range, awnings are available in a rich range of colours. An additional advantage of the VMZ vertical awning is the option of applying custom graphics. A printed awning can act as an attractive advertising medium – when lowered, it creates a coherent front on which your company logo remains perfectly visible to passers-by.
